About the Designer

Originally from New Jersey, I moved to Newark, DE in 2002 to pursue my bachelor's degree at the University of Delaware (UD). I graduated in May 2006 with a degree in Computer Science, a double minor in Management Information Systems and East Asian Studies, and a Certificate of Business Fundamentals. Upon graduation, I immediately commenced full-time employment with Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC) as a mainframe engineer where I currently work today.

In addition to my full-time job with CSC, I have recently begun part-time graduate work at UD where I am pursuing a dual-degree in Business Administration and Information Systems & Technology Management. While attending UD as an undergraduate, I was actively involved in the Honors Program, Chinese Cultural Student Association, and Tae Kwon Do organization. Today, favorite pastimes of mine include ballroom dancing, salsa dancing, cooking, reading, working out, and, of course, website designing!

Throughout my life, I have always been fascinated by the amazing technology of computers and the software industry. In particular, the power of the World Wide Web caught my full attention early on. I was astonished by the magnitude of websites available on virtually any subject, as well as the technology and beauty behind many of these websites. Impressed by the intricate designs behind such sites, I was inspired to create and design websites myself, thereby establishing AW Designs.

Since the age of fourteen, I have taught myself the essentials needed to develop, design, and maintain websites. This included learning the bare HTML and CSS code, as well as web programming languages such as Perl, PHP, MySQL, and ASP.NET to create an interactive web experience. Although proficient in the use of editors such as Adobe Dreamweaver and Microsoft Frontpage, I still prefer to code by hand today, as I feel it gives one more complete control over the webpage and results in a truly unique, custom-made website. In addition to the bare code necessary to create a website, the graphical element is equally important. To this end, I have devoted much time and energy teaching myself how to transform images in Adobe Photoshop and Corel Paint Shop Pro, as well as creating and manipulating objects in Macromedia Flash. Finally, it is not just enough to have built a beautiful website, but one must market it as well. I have employed web marketing techniques such as the popular SEO and landing pages, and have ensured all the pages I create are cross-browser, platform, and screen resolution compatible.

Because new web technologies are constantly being introduced, I strive to stay abreast of the latest web trends through self-study and application where relevant. This constant process of learning in the evolving world of technology is one of the aspects that endears me most to web design. It is one of the pleasures that I wish to continue pursuing for the rest of my life through designing for others. As the old adage goes, "Share your knowledge. It's a way to achieve immortality."
